It is important that you always show your Oregon Health Plan (OHP) ID card
- at your doctor’s appointments
- when going to the hospital.
Not showing your OHP ID card may cause your account to be sent to a collection agency.
What should you do if you get a collection notice or phone call? You are not responsible for any balance after FamilyCare makes a payment. You can ask the caller to contact FamilyCare to verify that your bill was received and paid.
Collection agencies must follow state and federal rules. They cannot threaten you with arrest or harass you. If you feel you need assistance, contact your caseworker. There are also Oregon Legal Aid offices that can help you. You can notify the collection agency IN WRITING that you want them to stop calling or writing you or both. This will not mean that you are no longer responsible for what you owe, but it will stop the phone calls.
